Smells like......
I have always liked the smell of cedar. It reminds me of going to the gym with my dad when I was around eight or nine years old. I lived with he and my step mom one summer (the only time in my life that I did). Every Saturday we would go to the movies, but before that he would go work out. Sometimes, if I woke up early enough, he would let me tag along. Since at eight I wasn't interested in getting my workout on, I spent most of the time in the hot tub and steam room. They were both made from cedar wood and man it smelled so wonderful. I would spend about an hour just boiling my skin off and inhaling the woodsy goodness. I think I was doubly happy because I knew what was coming after.....an afternoon alone with my father, eating popcorn and seeing a usually age inappropriate movie that would open my eyes to all the world had to offer. I particularly remember War Games, Weird Science, Risky Business, and a personal favorite... Real Genius. And because he hated being late ( a pet peeve that was most definitely passed down to me), we would arrive so early that we had plenty of time to talk before the movie started. For a little girl that didn't have her daddy very much growing up, it was heaven. No wonder I always go back to that time in my life as the happiest memories from my childhood. And a little side note/memory: on one of my trips to the gym I spent about twenty minutes in the hot tub from which I immediately jumped in to the Olympic size swimming pool sending my body into quite a shock. Funny thing is, I was such a strange, shy and prideful little girl, that I didn't tell anyone what happened to me, I just suffered in silence. Weird.
Side note: I just realized most of the movies I remembered happened when I was more like ten and twelve, but whatever, I can jumble my memories if I want to.
