Childlike Wildlife

My sister came and visited me today.  We were sitting beside eachother on my couch, just she and I, looking at pictures on my laptop.  "Wow, we are sitting, doing nothing", she said."  "I know", was my response.  Of course she was pointing this out because we NEVER do that.  We are usually about the business of being busy.  Kids, husbands, work, etc.  A little later we were watching the making of a Jason Mraz video.  The video was being shot on location in Hawaii and they were showing him doing all of this awesome stuff around the island.  "Man, I just want to have fun!" my sister exclaimed.  Everyone, including herself, laughed at how she blurted it out.  But we all knew where she was coming from.  "I just wanna do stuff, travel, go to different places" she continued, "I just want to climb trees."  The tree comment was in reference to some photos of our cousin and herself climbing in a tree on Thanksgiving.  She posted these pictures on facebook and my husband had commented on it with a "Way to go girl!"  We, my husband and I, had just talked about this very thing the day before.  Those photos, and their actions in them, had impacted us both.  We talked about how awesome it was that they were being that carefree.  And I pointed out that it was something they would do when they were teenagers.  They would get the camera and do mini photo shoots, taking pictures of eachother doing all sorts of things outside.  The coolness that they were doing it again after all these years wasn't lost on me.  They were being free, childlike.  And we were inspired by it.  This same Thanksgiving day I was also talking to my other cousin about something along the same lines.  She said her daughter had recently asked her to lay and look at the clouds with her.  She said she did it, but all the while she was thinking of the things she needed to get done.  She said she didn't feel she had time to do those types of things anymore.  We came to the conclusion that this was indeed sad, and that we needed to take the time to just be like kids.  So, I guess I am sharing all of that to say this:  Go ahead and be free, like a child.  Life is so fleeting and there is no reason that we should be so serious or so tied up that we can't have these spontaneous acts of silliness.  And nothing should keep us from pursuing our dreams, or doing something we really want to do, like travel, see things, climb trees, or lay in the grass all day finding animals in the clouds.  I think I see a giraffe, can you see it?
